UUNET Kenya completes full international redundancy on its core network.

UUNET Kenya customers can now enjoy 100% uptime after the company recently completed the installation of the 2nd International Backbone and the setting up of a Point of Presence (POP) in the US.
Previously, customers were re-routed to the US through the firm’s London POP Hence this new development gives them faster access the US, both in terms of download speeds and access times.

The firm’s Managing Director, Mr. Tom Omariba also said the inclusion of Cogent as the Tier 1 provider for IP transit has improved latency to the Americas, which is the real internet backbone.

UUNET TO UPGRADE ITS DATA INFRASTRUCTURE TO IPV6

UUNET Kenya has upgraded its data delivery process by migrating the company’s corporate clients to the next generation address distribution system called Internet Protocol, version 6 (IPv6).

The firm’s Managing Director Mr. Tom Omariba said servers which have already been migrated include those hosting the Domain Name Systems (DNS), email, authentication and web services.
The company has been distributing its data using the IPv4. In a statement, Omariba said the IPv6 will offer significant networking advances compared to the previous IPv4 that is currently being faced out.

“One of the main benefits is the ability to provide many more addresses for devices on the Internet. With IPv6, there will be an almost infinite number of IP addresses available, compared to the total 4.2 billion addresses space for IPv4 which is rapidly getting depleted.” said Omariba.
