UUNET EAR WALK LAUNCH – 2009
‘Bringing back the gift of hearing’

This year’s annual UUNET Ear Walk will take place on June 20, 2009
amidst calls for more corporate organizations to consider sponsorship
for the event.
The 10 km walk will be graced by the His Excellency Mr. Walter Lindner, the German Ambassador to Kenya.

UUNET Managing Director Mr. Tom Omariba speaking at an internal launch
ceremony for the event at the company offices emphasized the need to
help the less privileged in society.
According to the CSR Team Leader Obare Nyaega, the walk will be divided in three phases, the first of which was graced by renowned artist Eric Wainaina, who is also a partner and the walk’s ambassador.
UUNET organizes the annual event in partnership with Operation Ear Drop, a Non Governmental Organization.
Omariba said there was need to take seriously the case of people living with hearing complications and find ways of helping them.
This year’s theme for the event is ‘Bringing back the gift of hearing’.
This is the third year running that UUNET has sponsored the walk. For the last two years, the event has attracted participation from approximately 3000 people and raised Kshs 4, 511, 432.90. It is expected that this year’s event will push the figure to Kshs 6 million.
UUNET Kenya continues to view social responsibility as its commitment to contributing towards economic development and improving the quality of life of local communities.
Apart from the Ear Walk, UUNET supports the Cerebral Palsy Society of Kenya, Kwa Watoto Center and school, Kenya Paraplegic Organization, Tumaini Ladies Integrated Program and Junior Achievement among others. |
